(Edit: changed the full size to "original" since it was too small before)
more like "photo shoot question mark?" 'cause I don't know... lol
also, I sure hope it uploaded properly...
okay, here's the deal, its my entry to the summer contest for the online comic "Betting-On-Love", with the theme of... uh, I think E.J said "anime kitties".
I'd kinda sworn off anthropomorphization, so I didn't want to do the characters as cats/catgirls. That would be the reasoning behind the cat ear headbands
essentially, I just wanted a cool group pic! From left to right: The school bully, whose name I think I'm confusing with the mom, but I think she's Haruka. She's awesome. Hopefully people can see that she's scowling really hard, 'cause that's cool. Hopefully also, someone will think she's a boy, 'cause her boyishness is cool. lol
Next to her is Yoko, whose drawing of I really like. Best anatomy, best proportions (I did everyones base drawing kinda quick, so there ARE problems in this picture) best pose... I really like what I came up with for her. Her back came out really nice, and I'm ALWAYS struggling with how much anatomy work I can cover up in the end drawing, which is why she's got a dress like that >_> Plus, she's a model, which is why I got the idea that someone was taking her picture... or something. look, if you can see the background, its raining cats, so nothing has to make sense!
Next is Noa, the series protaganist, who I drew only AFTER inking (and erasing the pencils) on everybody else. it just simplified things considerable, my pencils tend to get extremely messy. Lotsa lines AND left-handed smudging (plus its hot, which makes it worse) so anything to simplify is a good idea. In my original idea, she was running and covering her head (y'know, 'cause its raining. raining cats) but I nixed that for her putting on her cat headband. complicated arm positioning and hand use... turned out okay. Also, by that point, I'd completely run out of fashion ideas, so she has a tshirt and jeans lol. Still, practical is VERY Noa, so it works.
Below is Rai, whose supposed to look cute. Mission acomplished right? lol well I think so... Her hands turned out the best I think, that's something. Also, she's supposed to be wearing a shirt like Haruka (her erstwhile tormentor) 'cause its funny. Actually, I quite intentionally placed them both on the ground... poor Rai won't ever get away from Haruka lol (ps: here's hopin' that IS her name lol)
Last is Rumi, whose personality is right on display. Enthusiastic and energetic! Short sleeved turtle neck, vest, and skirt combo... THIS was the height of my fashion work for this picture. I like this outfit! okay, also, because of her pose and the sketchy way I started her figure, she's the most stretched out of the girls. On her own, she'd be fine, but her proportions are way off in this GROUP pic. Also, she couldn't possibly stand up in that position.... and that's right! She's falling over, but she doesn't mind, 'cause she's got a cat! The cat minds though...
ALSO, I spent a relatively long time working on that cats face. I don't own a cat, I'm not particularly an animal person, and I don't draw that many animals... but it came out allright in the end anyway. *whew*.
That said, I wanted simpler drawings of cats in the background, which sometimes worked, sometimes didn't. They're in pencils to not take away from what I worked hard on, AND in case I ever feel like taking them away I can erase them. Treat them like a semi-abstract background element. Unless you really like them!
Hey, You finnaly uploaded something! Looks really good too, if I try to put more than one person in any of my work it turns out horrible but yours all work together pretty good, good job
It looks great! All the poses and exprations suit the characters. as for the fation, I like Rumi's out fit, but preffer Noa's sandles. That cat Rumi caught looks cute too. and best of all you didn't forget Haruka!! *Glump*

I didn't mention it anywhere in my (long) authors comment, but the idea was that Rumi was catching the cat. You got it! thanks for that
Haruka's one of the girls, of course I won't forget her yeah, she's not exactly "in with the group" but she is an interesting, and very likeable addition to the cast once you've met her (well, after meeting her brothers it seems XD )

Look, up in the sky, its a bird, its a plane.... well okay, that's Superman. But to the LEFT of him you'll see Sphynx!!!!
Glad you don't mind that they're still regular human girls, I wasn't entirely sure how that'd play out (well, entry-wise anyway) I'd been wanting to do a group pic of them for a really long time, so, what with the ages of pondering and getting to know their characters, I should hope I captured them!
I hope you can say the same thing when I post the girls character portraits later on (they're done, but I might not get the chance to scan and post them even this week, since I'm working on some local comissions. By the way, hurray for me, I'm doing some comissions!)

Yeah, I don't update with the same frequency as you, but I do what I can (to be fair, I DID update my scraps recently before this).
thanks for the compliment by the way, it gets pretty complicated when you get to 5 people (well honestly, its difficult with 2) but you rework the drawing enough times, eventually it pulls together!
By the way, I haven't forgotten about doing a tutorial, but the suggestion gave me an idea for a comic, and then I got some paying work to do... well, it might take a little while!
